Officers in Florida charge a woman with felony fraud for voting in two states simultaneously in multiple elections.

Democrats tout election integrity despite past doubts

After being charged with criminal voter fraud for allegedly casting ballots in two states during the same election cycle, a Florida woman was detained on Friday.

According to Palm Seaside County prison records, Cheryl Ann Leslie, 55, of Loxahatchee, Florida, was originally charged with two counts of criminal fraud.

According to a Florida Division of Legislation Enforcement (FDLE) press release, Leslie, who is registered as a Democrat, cast ballots in both the Florida and Alaska 2020 general elections, both at the federal and state levels. According to officials, Leslie cast her votes in Florida early and personally in Palm Beach County, and she did the same in Alaska through absentee ballot.

Leslie, a doctor assistant who works at a senior care facility in Loxahatchee, told the investigators that her job forced her to travel extensively between multiple states.

The Florida Secretary of State’s Office of Election Crimes and Safety discovered the irregularity in the balloting first, and it then informed the FDLE’s Election Crime Unit about it, according to the police. Leslie also cast ballots in each state in 2014, 2016 and 2018, according to the investigators, who claimed to have identified a pattern of multiple voting.

Secretary of State and Chief Election Officer Twine Byrd said in a statement that “The Florida Division of State, Place of Business of Election Crimes and Safety is grateful for our work with the Florida Division of Legislation Enforcement.” This arrest serves as yet another reminder to every qualified voter in Florida that the Division of State and FDLE are working together to ensure the validity of their vote and Florida’s electoral process.
