Lawrence remarked, “We didn’t really worry about doing anything wrong or making mistakes. We simply went and had fun.
After suffering back-to-back defeats to the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans in Weeks 2 and 3, the Jaguars (2-2) triumphed. The Falcons (2-2) suffered their second straight defeat.
Wide receiver for the Jaguars Christian Kirk referred to the win as “huge.”
Kirk declared, “Winning in this league is difficult. “It’s even harder when you’re losing, especially. Losing consecutively is quite difficult for you. You just do everything in your power to put together a performance like we did today and be able to get a win because it weighs heavily on the locker room.
“You never take something like an NFL victory for granted. It’s wonderful for us to regain control of the situation and our confidence.
With no interceptions, Lawrence completed 23 of 30 throws for 207 yards and one touchdown. The Jaguars took a seven-point lead after his 30-yard touchdown pass to Ridley on their second drive. This was their first lead of seven points or more since beating the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.
Ridley, a first-round pick of the Falcons in the 2018 NFL Draft, was traded by the Falcons to the Jaguars in November. His debut contest with the Falcons was this one. On Sunday, he grabbed two receptions for 38 yards.
Kirk gained 84 yards on eight receptions.
Desmond Ridder, the quarterback for the Falcons, completed 19 of his 31 attempts for 191 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Dijon Robinson, a rookie running back, gained 105 yards on the ground in 14 attempts, including 74 on six of those attempts as the Falcons went ahead in the third frame.
With their three sacks on Sunday, the Jaguars have eight for the year. With two of Allen’s three sacks coming in the first half, outside linebacker Travon Walker recorded one in the first quarter. For the Jaguars, safety Andre Cisco also got an interception, and defensive lineman Angelo Blackson recovered a late sack or fumble by Allen to seal the victory.
At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, the Jaguars will take on the Buffalo Bills.
